IISER Admission 2016

To promote high quality scientific education, research and training, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, has set up seven Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs) at Berhampur, Bhopal, Kolkata, Mohali, Pune, Thiruvananthapuram and Tirupati.
BS-MS Dual Degree Programme

It is a five year dual degree program for bright and motivated science students who have passed (10+2) level. The program integrates classroom learning with research and provides ample scope for multidisciplinary interactions. The first two years of the program consist of core courses in basic sciences, the third and fourth years are dedicated to specialization in chosen science subjects and the fifth year includes a research project. The training during the program enables students to pursue a career in academia, R&D institutes and science based industries.

Scholarship
KVPY scholars admitted to IISERs would draw fellowship as per KVPY norms. In addition a limited number of INSPIRE scholarships of Rs. 5000/- per month will be available for candidates admitted through JEE Advanced and SCB channels. This supersedes all earlier anouncements regarding scholarship.

Eligibility

There are three channels of admission. Candidates will be admitted to IISER only through these channels.

  1. Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) channel

  2. Joint Entrance Examination of Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT–JEE) channel

  3. State and Central Boards Channel (SCB) channel

These channels will be referred to as KVPY, IIT-JEE and SCB respectively

Indian nationals, and students belonging to PIO or OCI category are eligible to apply provided they satisfy the eligibility criteria described below.

KVPY Channel

Candidates having a valid KVPY fellowship commencing from 2016-17 academic session are eligible to apply for admissions. Additional cut off criteria may be applicable.

IIT-JEE Channel

Candidates securing a rank within 10000 in the Common Merit List (CML) of JEE Advanced 2016 for admissions to IIT’s. Additional cut off criteria may be applicable.

SCB Channel

Students who have passed (10+2) level with science stream in 2015 or 2016 with marks equal or above the cut off percentage in their respective boards as given in the table below are eligible to apply. For the candidates belonging to the Non-Creamy Layer of the Other Backward Classes (OBCNC) and Persons with Disability (PD) categories, there is a 5% relaxation. The cut-off percentage for the Scheduled Castes (SC), the Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Kashmiri Migrants (KM) candidates is 55% in (10+2) level for all boards. Students applying through SCB channel will have to appear in the IISER Aptitude Test which will be conducted at various centres across the country. To calculate your percentage of marks obtained use your board’s method.
